CAP SAFETY PLEDGE

"As a Civil Air Patrol member I pledge to promote an
uncompromising safety environment for myself and
others, and to prevent the loss of, or damage to
Civil Air Patrol assets entrusted to me. I will perform
all my activities in a professional and safe manner,
and will hold myself accountable for my actions in
all of our Missions for America."

The three primary missions of the Civil Air Patrol are Emergency Services, Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs. In all three missions, the most important component is safety. In fact, safety goes beyond being a component and must be the lens through which all activities are viewed. Only with a view toward managing and minimizing risk can personnel be protected and resources preserved. Safe operations promote the viability of the organization and make it a valuable choice for emergency missions assigned by the Air Force and government agencies.
Responsibility for the unit safety program rests with the Commander. Since the duties of the commander are many, and his time has limits, most of the unit safety program is directed by the Safety Officer, who reports directly to the Commander. It must be emphasized, though, that the safety program is truly a team effort, requiring the participation and vigilance of all squadron members. The responsibilities of the Safety Officer include:
Directing mishap investigations and preparing safety reports

Planning and conducting safety education and training programs

Reviewing and analyzing findings of accident reports to determine trends and develop methods for preventing future similar mishaps

Communicating with other safety officers throughout the Wing and Region

Conducting unit inspections and reporting findings to the vermont Wing Command

Identifying and eliminating hazards to safe operations

The Capital Composite Squadron has an active safety program. The program components are:Monthly safety briefingsImplementation of safety directives from the National, Region, and Wing CommandersMonthly Safety ReportsAnnual Safety InspectionsRisk Management EducationHazard Identification and EliminationIt is expected that all members of the squadron will participate in the program by attending safety briefings, participating in safety activities, promoting the safety culture of the squadron, and applying risk management principles in planning and carrying out activities. The Safety Officer is available to support those efforts.
